Post subject: Electrical Help- aux fan w/ the a/c on

FIRST OFF--> I’m good at basic electrical work but not a pro, so don’t kill me but help me understand to become better.

-Problem is related to the aux fan and electrical current w/the a/c on.
Basically I used a spal fan (1300cfm, 7.9amps) replacing the aux fan and worked great until one of the fans sheared off due to debris on the road. It was put on and I hooked it up and everything worked properly and no electrical issues when first installed. I wanted to replace it with a stronger fan (Perma-Cool 2300cfm 8.9amp) that had a bigger motor to keep up with the use of a/c being on more. I put this on and it worked when I tested it twice (also the resistor was very hot like it usually is). I soldered it in and tested it again and it didn’t turn on at all. Figured that was unusual…

-With the car on the resistor is not hot at all now and after a certain time the fan turned on I believe at high speed due to the aux fan sensor (81/88deg) on the radiator (it would turn on for a couple mins and turn off and then after some time turn back on/ off). So…that function is working but not the aux fan turning on when the a/c is on. I believe I damaged my resistor and is not working now. I also believe the draw power from the fan is to high that I need to add something (relay?) to provide proper electrical current to fan without blowing stuff. That is what I think but you electrical masters can tell me more or better facts to helping this problem.

I greatly appreciate your looking at this and help! I enjoy DIY’ing and want to solve this problem.

I did glance at this a/c relay kit from perma-cool which I think might solve my problem providing the necessary power to the fan:
