Post subject: My Euro 628Csi

For the last week I have been trying to get the 6er through emissions. I started out with my usual process and took it to Andrew@ BAV LTD. He said I need a new cat, which is only 2 years old, said it did not pass. 250.00 for his time. I brought it home and was going to do plan B, seafoam and Denatured alcohol. Had about 5 gallons in the tank and added almost 1 gallon of the alcohol to it, drove it around and ran great. Waited till today to take it to emissions because it was nice and cool this morning. Went to fire it up, stalled immediately, which is not unusual in the morning. Tried to start it again, nothing. Cranks over real good but will not fire up. So I check what I knew to do. Check spark and its not good, yellow not blue. So now I am changing everything. Coil, cap, rotor, wires, plugs. I'm betting I fail emissions because the car was not burning all the fuel due to poor spark. All new parts are Bosch, thats whats in the car now, and looks like these parts have never been replaced since new. We shall see.

Wow.. I feel your pain, had to replace both my cats, o2 sensors, and a few other things to get my 8er to pass emissions. Didn't want to have to go a third time around, so I did the alcohol route in addition to all the aforementioned fixes, too, just to be safe.

Hope you get her running, one of my favorite cars is the e24! Bring her to the meet this thursday?

Andrews trick is to crank up the fuel to bring the NOX down and rely on the cat to take care of the rest. When he took it in it was
HC 4.12 (2.40)limit
CO 61.48 (20.00)
NOX 3.85 (3.50)

I'll bring it out when back together. Waiting on the ignition parts and also pulled injectors to send out for a cleaning.

Do you have a spare fuel pressure regulator? That's way rich. Is the vacuum line actually attached to the regulator?

This was a reading after he cranked up the fuel. I do not have a spare fuel pressure regulator but plan on getting a new one anyway. Oh and yes the vacuum line was attched. My reading last time, 2 years ago before adjustment.
HC .77
CO 6.80
NOx 4.20
See the NOx is too high, therfore he turns up the fuel to cool the engine to bring down the NOx. I know this is qa BS way off doing emissions but thats what has been done for the past years before I bought the car.
