Damn Mike, good luck...talk to Jason, he had a couple tricks for getting his e21 to pass back in the day. I just had to do emissions the other day and passed, yay for OBDII.

Thanks Chris. The problem mainly looks like a leaky injector since high CO indicates a rich mixture of fuel. Plus my E34 is a 1993 and has 126k miles on the original injectors so seems like they are done, so I will get a cheap/ good set from some place and try again. It's also weird b/c I passed the CO in my first emissions test but by a few...

Also I still owe you that money, and im sorry that it has been so long but i'll call yah to see when I can swing by to give yah that!

What's your fuel pressure on the return side? If it's very low (the Bentley should give you the spec), that should confirm the leaky injector theory. Since you changed the o-rings, etc, I'd think the FPR could be bad (essentially not regulating pressure). I've never owned a car with a CEL, but what has helped a lot of M30 and M20 guys pass emissions is to unplug an injector. It shouldn't throw a code since the CEL only comes on for AFM, o2 sensor, Coolant temp sensor or TPS malfunctions.

While we're on the subject...

Both E21s passed emissions like nothing. The last time I took the beige car through, they had to test it three times since it registered 0.00 for one of the categories. They've always been crazy.

I've tested my 535 once and it did well.

My Volvo on the other hand is a disaster. We always retard the timing before taking it through. Did that this year and passed...barely. 2.3 of 2.5 on NOx. Turns out the dickwad who tested the car entered an "M" instead of an "H" for the year digit in my VIN and my '87 was tested as a '91. They wouldn't fix it, and said I had to retest the vehicle. It failed. 3.7 of 2.5 on NOx. They tested it again and it turned a 3.04 of 2.5. Tomorrow, I'm putting a cat on the car. I could have put that off for two years, but I can't now. Thanks asshole.

I take my e24 to Andrew and he adjust the AFM. It gets passed then he tunes it back for drivability. normgrills.net/bcg/Injection.html

That's not worth $200. Why don't you just get a spare AFM and drive around with that. Then come emissions time, swap over the one Andrew did.

There's no reason an E34 couldn't pass emissions. The fact it isn't means there's another issue. It's not good to let a car run rich.

I PASSED!!

Thanks guys for the much appreciated help you have given me through this exhausting process of emissions testing. I ordered a set of good/ used M50 injectors from EuroDepot figuring my issue was indeed leaky injectors. I cleaned them and put them in and finished with some techron fuel system cleaner and a good drive (surprisingly my original injectors seemed ok with only 126k miles on them but while driving at night the motor sounded so much better then before with the ones I just got). Here’s my final numbers:

HC- .99
CO- 6.08
NOX- 1.95

Thanks Again, now its time to renew my registration and put my conforti chip and 19lb injectors back in for that power that I have missed...

Hard to find a AFM for a euro car, and 200.00 isn't bad considering he takes it to the emissions center and back to his garage. Just one of those things that is needed to be done with a euro car.

What does it take to register a car in another county that does not require emissions? I need to know! Maybe open a PO Box to show u have an address there?

There are a couple things that go along with registaration in a non emissions county. Your driver licence should reflect where you live. And if you work or goto school in Maricopa county then you must comply. I know sounds like BS. Believe me if I could change registration I would, my inlaws have a house in Prescott.
