Post subject: Coming soon to a desert near you!

Hello!
I recently found out that I am being moved to Tucson in August or September. My real name is Matthew. I am currently on my 5th BMW, it is a 2001 Z3 3.0i Coupe. I also have a 2001 Z3 2.5i Roadster, which will be gone soon. My other BMWs were a 1995 325i sedan, 1987 325i vert and 1990 535i. I also have a love for the Toyotas, I'll probably pick up quite a few of both BMW and Yotas. I'm looking at buying a place with at least half an acre and building a workshop where I can tinker with cars. I'm also going to be buying damaged and unloved/unwanted BMWs to fix or part out. I'm not a master mechanic but I can fix most things with a Bentley manual. I already have a few question about the Tucson area.
1. Where are the good places to live?
2. What are the road conditions like? Smooth or rough and full of potholes?
3. How's the weather? Can I keep the Coupe on the road year round?
4. Cost of living? I'm coming from Hawaii where everything is expensive.

And for anyone who cares, my Toyotas have been
1. 1989 4Runner
2. 2002 Taco Dbl Cab, 4X4, lifted
3. 1994 Landcruiser
4. 1997 4Runner
5. (Wifes) 2005 Rav4
6. 2000 Lexus RX300 with Straight Pipes

1. Not Tucson

2. Depends on your definition of "pothole". Get to know your local tire and wheel shop.

3. Awesome. A bit cooler than Phoenix just from lack of "urban heat island". Yes, you can drive your vag-mobile year round.

4. Among the cheapest gas prices in the country. Cheap hookers and blow as well.

Welcome, and may we ask what you do for a living and why they would station you in little tijuana?

1. North and east part of the town is ok, must learn Spanish for the west side
2. roads are not that smooth, ground is unstable in Tucson, lots of underground water, breaks up the road
3. Winters are nice and mild, summer is brutal heat and because of it car loses half of the power.
4. Cost seems to be low when compared to east coast.

Also, the ride from Tucson to Phoenix on the I-10 is terrible and loaded with cops!

I think the roads are pretty good, but I'm up on the north side.
Also, there's no BMW community.

1. Not Tucson.
2. Tucson is always under construction. The city grew faster than the planning of the roadways could keep up. It's always a mess. There isn't a freeway system.
3. Weather is nice. HOT HOT HOT in the summer, but I keep my vert on the road all year. Make sure the AC works.
4. Cost of living - Cheaper than Hawaii by a lot. Use the extra money and move away from Tucson up to Phoenix somewhere. (Scottsdale, Chandler, Mesa, Gilbert)

I learned this morning that Tucson has a bus-riders union and they be mad that the city is cutting some routes. They also wouldn't let Grand Canyon University move in because they didn't have an LGBT club - not that they were being discriminatory but they just let their LGBT people assimilate into the student body.

I hate Tucson. The thought of having to go down there for work makes me sad face. Lil' Abners in Pretty Much Marana is pretty good though. So are the menus. Laughing

Nothing wrong with Phoenix, BTW.

Seems like a lot of mixed reviews, I'll probably only be there for a few years. Tucson wasn't my first choice for places to live, I was hoping to go to Vegas. The Air Force said no, an now I'm getting ready to go to Arizona.

The roads here in Honolulu are terrible, I have driven cross country several times and never encountered so many potholes and cracks. I have encountered potholes so deep that all 4 wheels were in the pothole at once. Bent the tie rods on my 4Runner.

I love the Vag-Mobile, but I'll probably pick up an e30 for a DD. The Coupe only has 42,500 miles right now and I'd like to keep it low.

Ah well, if youre being stationed because of military then i guess youre gonna have to find some way to like it. Maybe find a house on top of Mt. Lemmon and enjoy that amazing drive to and from work.

I found a house I like, it has a big workshop with the garage door, power, A/C and it comes with a double-wide... which I don't mind too much... I'll only be there a few years and I'm willing to put up with a redneck mansion for the workshop. I'm just not willing to spend everything on a $250,000 house that I'm going to sell in 4 years anyways. The house is in Summit... should I stock up on ammo or is it a decent area?

Double-wide = buy ammo

Welcome to the AZBMW! Tucson may not be for everyone but it sounds like you'll make the best of it!

I'll be building up my arsenal and investing heavily in ammo... maybe a couple pit bulls... land mines... armed drones... just the basics.

You really just need a "I support SB1070" sign in your front yard
