Post subject: Turbo tuning and general engine diagnostics help

Hey guys. Does anyone have the desire to help a newbie with his turbo 325 figure out how to make it run better? I'm pretty sure the FPR is bad so I wanted to get some advice on which one I should get because of the turbo. The engine is slow to respond to the gas pedal and it feels like a timing issue but I can't be certain. I don't know a thing about these cars especially turbo's so any help with this would be appreciated.

I would also be interested in knowing anyone who can rebuild a motor that won't charge an arm and a leg.

Stock FPR works well on these cars. Make sure yours is working properly by connecting a vacuum pump and verify its holding vacuum, should hold 20in. What are you using for tuning?

Ok, I'll just keep the stock FPR then, it seems to be alright with the vacuum check. The car runs but there is a half second delay or so when I give it some gas. Any suggestions why this may be?

Could be not enough fuel getting to the engine (larger fuel pump)...Tuning? need more fuel since you are getting more air...countless number of other things....should of done your research prior to going FI

Wow you guys are great...and by great I really mean judgmental smart-asses. Before you run off and make assumptions you should maybe ask a few questions first. Since you didn't, here's the skinny on my current situation with the car. I've been wanting to pull the trigger on purchasing an e30 for years. I found one that wasn't running so I bought it because I figured it would be a good project. the car CAME WITH THE TURBO setup, I didn't by a turbo and try to figure it out. So now for the answers you assumed I didn't know anything about. Fuel management is by means of the Inovate LC-1 Wideband, turbo is a generic t3/t4 m24. Boost controller is an old Greddy Profec II and it would appear that all of this crap came from a Japanese car before it was installed on the e30 because it's mix-matched with apexi and other various Japanese parts. No clue what the injectors are but I can tell that they're aftermarket without removing the fuel rail to get to them. As far as not enough fuel, I would be willing to guess that it's running rich. While I'm trying to start it it's turning over and smells like it floods in a matter of a second. My first guess was that maybe the FPR was stuck open and letting fuel into the intake manifold. Not the case after I had the car running and checked it for vacuum. So back to my original question now; where should I go from here? I replaced the main relay and fuel pump relay and it hasn't started since the first time I got it started after I replace them yesterday. I already checked for spark and it's all good. Please don't reply if you just have a smart remark. I'm new to e30's so cut me some slack.

The wideband, as far as I know, can't be controlling the engine. It will send a signal to the ECU if setup for it, but does not control the fuel. You should be looking for Motronic (stock), VEMS, MegaSquirt, or something else. Then you need to get whatever you find tuned. Good luck, sounds like you'll need it.

Sorry, I forgot to add that part. I have the megasquirt v3.0. Does anyone recommend any specific software for it? I know there are many out there.

Whatever program the guy who is going to attempt to tune this on the dyno is most comfortable with is the choice I would make.
