Post subject: what the fvck?!

So my e24. I have absolutely no idea what's wrong. Like, my mind is blown. My dads engineer friends thought it was the alternator, replaced that, then battery went dead, replaced that and the power wire (one from battery to starter) then I thought it was the relay that's controlled by the neutral safety switch, found out my e30 had the same relay so I used that one, tunred the key, nothing. Back to ground zero. Did my trick with throwing it into neurtal and back into park then tried again. Absolutely no lights or anything. Then I took the battery out of another car with more power (fully charged I know that for sure) and tried it, absolutely nothing like there's no battery even in the car. So my e24 won't even get power or anything. Its stumped everyone I know, can anyone please help?

I dont know shit about older bmw's but maybe the key ignition part is not working.

I might be wrong but a 1000 miles but that is the first step to getting your car going lol.

Sounds like the sensor that determines if you are in park or not is dead. If your shifter is sloppy then it's not getting fully into park.

That's my only guess.

Oh, my bad - didn't see you weren't getting any lights or anything.

No clue.

I would start with the ignition switch. If that doesnt work, new wiring harness. If that doesnt work, 2lbs of C4

Like I said, the main power wire is brand new. And yeah I was thinking the neutral/park safety sensor was gonna be my next course of action but last night I turned the key, it cranked like once, and then every bit of power was gone. Put in a different fully charged battery, still absolutely no power to anything

Sorry Gabe, didn't even see that you posted this. Honestly the power thing, not sure. I took the battery onto work the next day, it was dead. Charged it, put it back in, I had power. No idea why I didn't the night before. Either way though, she lives. I have fixed the not starting problem and I now feel like a complete moron for not trying it earlier. I bet no one will ever guess what the problem was. Let's hear some guesses
