When I would drive my e46 m3 in the heat like this my oil temp did rise almost as much as yours does, specially just sitting idle like at a stoplight or stop and go traffic. It would always go back to just over the middle line when moving so maybe your oil cooler duct might be blocked or something.

This. I experience the exact same thing throughout the summer.

Same here.

I just examined some datalogs for an E46 M3 and his Oil Temp was 230. Without knowing the actual temp on your car I can't say for sure, but it sounds fairly "normal".

I disagree, I believe the car should run as close as possible to how it ran when it was new. If its doing something different now then it means there is a problem. Im going to go with the oil cooler of the hpf site, once I install it I will update on how my car is doing.

I agree that you should be close to stock, but what I'm saying is you don't seem very far off base from what standard is for BMW. My 2001 325 is 215-220 and my 2008 328i is 230-235. If you want I'll get a datalog from a friend with an M3 who's in a cooler climate and take a look at his as well. I'm curious just how accurate the points on that gauge really are, so maybe I'll have him compare his gauge to the datalog.

Edit: Just found a log where I reached 243 in the 328 at a standstill. If you want to check what yours actually is and you're ever in the Tempe area let me know.

I had the same issue when I picked up my car from sand diago and I changed out the fan clutch and the car runs normal temps the car runs before the middle line at night oil n water so try the fan clutch.

What's "hot"? What's the temperature of your oil?
