UPDATE 7-16, click the link, scroll down, you'll see it.
http://azbmw.org/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=14329&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=45

Since I'm keeping it, and it's going on 2yrs of owning it I figured I'd finally create a progress thread since I'm ramping up getting things done on this baby.

Here's the details, as of last week:

1999 BMW M3 Convertible (Automatic) in Titanium Silver with Black top and interior

Mileage: ~161,000 miles

Factory options:
• Automatic Transmission
• Power Seats
• Power top
• Trip Computer
• Harman/Kardon sound
• Factory Cassette with BMW Business 6-disc CD changer (in trunk)
• Cruise Control

Installed Mods that came with car:
• European ZKW HID’s
• White/clear front and side turn signals
• Euro tail lights
• Racing Dynamics sway bars, front and rear
• Slotted brake rotors
• Stainless Steel Brake Lines
• K&N Cold air intake

Things that have been replaced since I've owned the car
(Unless otherwise noted all parts were brand new OEM)
Summer 2010
• A/C Final Stage Unit
• Cabin air filter
• AC recharged

June 2010
• 20% Nano Window Tint (blocks 99% of UVA, UVB, and Infrared rays ) on all 4 side windows (back is plastic, can't tint)
(Done by Penske Scottsdale)

December 2010
• Front Struts, mounts, bump stops, dust boots
• Front tires
• Front control arm bushings (Powerflex)

January 2011
• New HID bulbs and ballast (DDM Tuning Raptor kit, H1 35W 5000k)

February 2011
• Thermostat, T-stat housing (metal)
• Water pump, water pump pulley
• Fan blades, fan clutch
• Belts
• Radiator hoses
(All done at BMW North Scottsdale)

March 2011
• Rear shocks
• Rear shock mounts (Rogue Engineering)
• Rear trailing arm bushings (AKB)

April 2011
• Front swaybar links

December 2011
• One cylinder coil and all 6 spark plugs

March 2012
• Engine mounts
• Trans mounts
• Tie rods (entire assemblies)
• Both belt tensioner struts
• Both tensioner pulleys
• Idler pulley
• AC condenser and dryer
• T-stat
• Radiator
• All radiator hoses
• Temp switch sensor
• Coolant level sensor
• Fan Shroud
• Expansion tank

April 2012
• Diff, transmission, power steering, and brake fluids all replaced

Current Issues:
• Small oil leak from oil pan gasket, nothing serious
• Spare tire rim is slightly bent - has newer tire put on with even ware pattern
• Passenger side power mirror doesn’t work - may be a fuse, never got around to checking
• Passenger side power seat back doesn’t work – a common problem in these cars, a small gear inside is stripped
• Has ABS and Airbag lights on - (ABS still works though) I’ve read the ABS could be dirty wheel speed sensor, or loose sodering point for the light, as it flickers when going over bumps
• “Low Beam Failure” error - This is a common thing on these, this due to the HIDs and the US cars not being made/sold with them factory, I bought the correctors for this from DDM Tuning, but it did not fix it which it said it may not work on all models.
• Small hole in leather on driver seat - about the size of a hole punch.

Here are some pics of when I got it in May 2010 and now some current ones I took (in the same spot) just a few weeks ago.

UPDATE

Thanks to my tax return and Christian's hard work and help I got a lot of stuff done to this car last weekend.

Replaced all of the following with brand new OEM parts:

• Engine mounts
• Trans mounts
• Tie rods (entire assemblies)
• Both belt tensioner struts
• Both tensioner pulleys
• Idler pulley
• AC condenser and dryer
• T-stat
• Radiator
• All radiator hoses
• Temp switch sensor
• Coolant level sensor

Also got the coolant flushed and the AC recharged too. And last Thursday got the windshield replaced as well.

This knocked out all the major issues with the car, and some of the lesser ones too.

Was also looking at replacing the roof tension straps and/or roof but after going to a few places they basically said mine is the original top but it's good shape minus the few seams coming undone, so they recommended that I might as well wait and "use it up" this summer then replace it all next fall. Which is what I'll do, no point replacing it now just to have it sit up all summer.

He also set me up with a parking light delete and hooked up my ZKW's city lights! Someone put orange bulbs in them, it looked hella stupid. I got some white ones later at Autozone. Better but still a massive contrast between the two, going to look at some different types and see if I can get something a bit brighter and more closer to the whiteness of the HID's

Before:

After:

Oh yeah, since I got new windshiled I also replaced the wiper cowl too, since they dry out and crack and look like shit usually. Got new wipers too, and will repaint the wiper arms probably this weekend. But here's the new and old.

Before:

After:

And pulled out the busted ass fog lights finally, and ripped/cut out what was left of the hanging front fender liners too. Ordered some new fogs with laminx, hope to get them soon.

And I got an alignment Monday from Network and now I'm all set. I have to say the car feels MUCH more like I imagined it originally did when it was new, finally! Just all around, it sounds and feels so much better than it has since I bought it.

I can't thank everyone enough, especially Christian for all the work, you're awesome!

Next up either this weekend or next are fluid changes/flushes, including

• Auto transmission flush
• Diff flush
• Power Steering flush
• Brake flush
• Cooling system flush
• Replace fuel filter

After that I still have a tiny bit left, looking between strut bar, lower springs, and new pads and rotors (don't NEED pads quite yet but want non-dust ones). But may just save it for a rain day for now and work on the little things left.

And here's some random pics I took

Old condenser (surprised it only had ONE hole in it!)

Old windshield

Random before and afters

I'm glad you have decided to do something with that car.

Forget the ATF flush. Grab a zf for 200 and do a manual conversion. And maybe an odb1 manifold swap.

Oh, oh, oh! DO NOT "FLUSH" THE TRANSMISSION. That kills them. Just drain, replace the filter and refill.

I do still have the bulbs.

Yeah me too. It was long over due, but things are finally, slowly, starting to come together just now.

Ha ha, it has crossed my mind, numerous times. Maybe next tax return! Ha ha If/when I do it, I want to do it right, much like Slaughter is doing, I'd take my time and clean it all out and replace everything, etc

Yeah, that is what I meant actually.

Is that a used condom on your passenger seat floor in your last picture?

LOL!

No, that's a reminder to not to help a friend get a new car battery. Old one was leaking apparently and ate thru the bag, floor mat, and a bit of the carpet.

But you did remind me that I forgot to mention I order a brand new set of floor mats and just got them today.

This look better?

For sure, I'd think not for a while, enough stuff has been replaced on it, including the entire dang cooling system (practically twice now), but I won't hold my breath. But it feels SOOO much better now, and I'm actually enjoying driving it again, I can tell cause my average mpg's are going down Smile

Glad to see some progress on your M3! Much better than buying a new mini-sized car. Cool
