Post subject: Brake fluid leak from hell

Today as I pull from the garage in the 540i e39 I noticed my brake pedal very soft and going all the way down I put the car in drive and get going I press again on the brakes, pedal is going all the way down and car takes a while to stop, I turn back to the house (good thing I was 100 feet from the house), park, open the hood, what do i see, brake fluid squirting out on the passenger side of the engine bay, I try to pinpoint the culprit and it turns out is one of the short rubber hoses, see link below.

On the last paragraph in the middle it states once the car is re-bled "cycling of the ABS hydraulic unit solenoids must be carried out" Is this mandatory and can indie shop do it?
