2001 e39 530i sport
sisters car took a shit yesterday and would start then die after a second then eventually not start at all.
checked pump and it works. so then i moved to the injectors. i have constant power but no ground at all. any insight? tried the pedal down all the way while cranking to let any gas that was left in the engine to burn up. so i know its not flooded wont. it wont get ground while cranking. switched out the relay and still nothing.

i figured that much thats why i initially checked the relay. it cant be a bad ecu cuz dash lights come on. check engine and miles wouldnt appear if ecu didnt work right? it fires up with start fluid too.

if you think the ECU is good, do a resistance check on the wires from the injectors to the ECU. if the resistance comes up good (continuity) then the ECU is at least partially bad. complete failures are uncommon, but partial failures happen all the time

ECUs don't usually go bad.
If it's not getting spark, it could be a whole assortment of things.
Check to see if your cam and/or crank position sensors are bad.
Is the ECU groud good?
How is the engine harness, pinched,streched,melted,corroded anywhere?

tchao thats what me and dad were going to do today. well he was. i got things to do before i go into work. lol anyone in the scottsdale area want 100 octane gas hit me up. scottsdale rd and mckellips. im at valero all day hustlin gas lol

lol not free its like 7.99 i just didnt know if you guys knew of a station around that had it. and i know alot of you live in that area so i figured id let you know if you didnt. ive only seen an evo and a 350z pump 100oct since i started here.

how did you check the pump? how do you know it works? ie whats the fuel pressure?

pressure at rail was checked at the shrader valve. no i didnt use a pressure tester on it. id open the valve after a few cranks and have pressure. dad just texted the injectors with our 'noid testers and the test came back good. maybe both connectors on each injector have to be plugged for it to show some sort of activity? hes replacing the fuel filter now as the car could probably use one even if thats not the problem. im starting to think crank sensor? if it was a cam sensor the car would still run just shitty right? i did my cousins cam sensor a few weeks ago and we drove it to get his parts.
