Post subject: Seats installed!

After a couple of days cleaning them up, I installed my sport seats last night. Super easy. If anyone ever needs help with a seat swap, let me know, I'll help you out.

I can see why bigger fellas often complain about the sport seats. They're pretty snug. Perfect for a guy like me.

Next up, when I receive all the wiring/buttons/etc., I'll be hooking up the heat that are already in these seats. I also have to replace the seatbelt buckles because they came from a wrecked car and the explosive bolts were activated. This is a guess because I have an airbag light even though I unhooked the battery before I unplugged the seats. In addition, my "fasten seatbelt" light is on, telling me that it's not even registering the fact that the seatbelt IS buckled.

The first pic shows the passenger seat swapped out and the standard seat still installed on the driver's side.

The regular e39 seats suck ass. The sports seats are legit.

Your car looks like it is in great shape. Typically those tan interiors get beat to hell. Those seats look wayyyyy clean.

Ambition approves.

Thanks guys.

I agree, Ambition, the standard ones do suck and made me cringe every time I got in my car.

Thanks for the compliment. My ride only has about 36k miles and I did a lot of cleaning to get those seats to look like that. Unfortunately, the driver's seat has some issues on the left, back bolster that don't show in these pics.

What did you use to clean them?

Well, I wouldn't recommend it because I didn't (and still don't) know if I was dealing with real leather, but it went down like this:

1. Used this stuff called Zymol first. (Got it at target.) In case they are real leather I wanted to condition it and get good oil into the hide. My hope was that it would lift the dirt and bad oils out.

2. Wrapped them in black trash bags on my back patio for about 24 hours to aid with the absorption/expulsion process.

3. Then I went to work on them with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I wouldn't recommend it because if it is real leather, I'm sure I've aged it quite a bit. If it isn't, then it should be okay. Magic erasers are abrasive so you have to know when to quit. Otherwise, they did the job. And of course, I did not use them on the bolster issue-areas.

To be honest, I can't say whether or not my process works as well as just using water and terry-cloth.

I buy Zymol from Target, Good product!

Xylol, that's a solvent based stripping agent.

Which one did you use???
