We have the opportunity to pick up a 330i with just under 70k on the clock, for a really good price through a family member. Its an auto.. about all i know so far. I havent driven the car yet, just seen it in person a few times

What kinds of things should i watch out for? I am waiting to find out what has been done recently or at all.

I am finding some interesting threads but i want to know what people that have owned this car have had to do? I see water pumps are from 44k-130k that they can go bad?

Ryan, i know you had one for quite some time, overall thoughts?

Really? I have two M54 powered cars with more than 150k and no smoke, no problem with valve stem seals. Besides 2006 330i is E90 with N52 engine.

I had one and things that I did not like about it are run flat tires, it is $350 a tire and when it goes flat you can only due 55mph, only special tire shops have machine to change run flat tire because they are so stiff. I think you can buy a emergency wheel but it is smaller diameter than running wheels, so you can't do more than 55mph on it anyway. Another issue are tire pressure sensors, they have internal battery that goes dead, so you have to buy another set of sensors. Other than tire issues it was a very good car

Yeah N52!

Yeah run flats can suck a bag of dicks!! I cannot stand them

From what i have read it seems to be a great car!

It is looking like we will be picking it up this week

As a current owner of an 04 E46 330i, i can tell you that this isn't as common on this motor as you think. I've been part of a number of e46 communities and it doesn't happen THAT often.

Things to look out for:
FCAB/RTAB
Suspension (primarily shocks)
Vanos rattle
Valve cover gaskets
Oil separator hoses (the az heat beats the hell out of these plastic things)
Windshield wiper fluid reservoir pump (had to replace this f'er like 4 times now)
Cooling system overhaul around 80-90K miles

Here she is!

So far I really am loving the car. I have been driving it around a bit lately since my wife cannot drive because of her surgery.

It handles great and is surprisingly peppy on the acceleration.. But I also daily an m20 so that could be why Wink

So far my wife keeps saying that she wants the M3 bumpers and I am thinking some different wheels and some lowering springs and that will about do it

Great car so far! I am starting to plan out some basic maintence items because id rather replace the pump and a few others before they crap out on me. Not sure of a maintence history prior to my ownership

I keep seeing lots of electrical problems. Not nearly as many as e53s but some serious diag time.

the water pumps can go out at any mileage really. POS design, expensive to replace. Do the tstat while your at it to save labor.

of course any cooling system parts.

If it has any goodies like active steering or anything like that, that can get expensive.

cupholders break but are extremely simple to replace.

window regulators are easier than changing the oil so no worry there. wish they wouldve applied this design to all models.

oil stand gaskets start leaking when you get up in the high mileage numbers.

CABs of course.

since its an auto, the "mechatronic sleeve" will start leaking at some point. At which time you will have to do a transmission pan at the same time since they are plastic and warp when you take them off. they also have the filters built directly into them. you have to take the pan off to do the sleeve.

and i have been seeing a lot of low mileage (sub 100k) wheel bearings lately as well.

all the services are condition based now and each one has an idiot light, so just do the services as the lights pop up and you should be fine.

Good luck.

Austin, you should reach out to Ryan and see if he has any mod parts left over from his E90's. Dude only had like three of them.

Congrats on the nice pick-up! Sometimes you just need an automatic with four doors.
