Post subject: E30 DOHC Swap Rough Idle

Hey AZBMW

So, I have a 1985 318i, with an M50 swap from a 92 325is. Just curios if anyone has any pointers of what else to check, any help is greatly appreciated!

The Problem Evil or Very Mad : The car starts up and runs fine, however...After about 2-3 minutes of sitting at idle the motor starts to have a rough idle, never tries to stall out, just a rouch up/down rpm curve.

I already cleaned the throttle body, and ICV and everything is clean and seems to be functioning fine...

Any ideas of what else it could be?

Get starter fluid and a spray can straw. Combine that and use in suspected areas of the intake system. In case of a vacuum leak you will hear a change in the idle when spraying. Be sure to check where the manifold meets the head and the lines to the brake booster.

The intake boot is commonly the culprit.
